ACI™ TECHNOLOGY

ACI™ Technology is a new patented noninvasive method for determining the elastic recoil pressure of an artery.  The recoil pressure is a measure of the work done by the artery when it is distended to regulate blood flow, and is expressed as an Arterial Compliance Index (“ACI”) in pressure units of mmHg.  The ACI correlates to blood pressure, artery stiffness, distension, blood flow, flow resistance, and is compared to a baseline index for a particular artery in issue.  Current methods of measuring arterial stiffness are technically demanding, time consuming, costly, and limited in scope.  The ACI™ Technology offers a novel and advanced method for evaluating artery stiffness and hemodynamics within the primary-care setting and in hospital practice.

HOW IT WORKS

The Arterial Compliance Index (ACI™) is calculated using systemic blood pressure and peak blood flow velocities of the artery signature waveform. Two blood pressure (BP) measurements spaced by one to two minutes are first taken prior to the screening of the artery. Peak-systolic and end-diastolic blood velocities of the artery are measured. One BP measurement is taken after the screening. The ACI or elastic recoil pressure is then calculated and displayed.
